The Williamstown Area Historical Society is a privately funded organization.  We are working to help preserve and protect our local.  Who will continue the vital work of educating the next generation once this generation is gone?  Legacy planning can have a dramatic, positive impact on the Williamstown Area Historical Society’s ability to help educate current and future generations.  Bequests and other planned gifts from generations past and present give the Williamstown Area Historical Society the necessary resources to fulfill our mission.  As history teaches us, most people have the means to give as they would like to give, simply by planning whatever deferred gift is right for them.

The following options have proven especially effective for friends of WAHS who have decided to include the Williamstown Area Historical Society in their long-range plans.  Gifts that cost nothing during your lifetime:

• A bequest in your will

• Designation of part or all of a retirement account (IRAs, 401(k)s, et al.)

• Making the Williamstown Area Historical either beneficiary, or the owner, of a life insurance policy

  Gifts that endow the Williamstown Area Historical Society while returning income to you or others:

• Charitable gift annuities

• Charitable remainder trusts

• Do you really want to make a gift to the IRS?: the greatest tax relief

• Charitable lead trusts:  avoid estate tax

• Giving with retirement accounts:  avoid income tax (and possibly estate tax)

• Give now and avoid paying any tax at all: The charitable IRA rollover
