1903 Bridge built over Ohio River

The era of the rail roads brought growth and modernity to Williamstown, as symbolized by a new bridge over the Ohio, built in 1903.

 

1884 Railroad built.

1893 Oil found nearby. 

1899 First Telephone pole.

1901 First paved streets.

1901 Williamstown incorporates (again!).

1902 First trolley car.

1903 Bridge to Marietta built.

1903 Gas street lamps!

1907 First piece of Fenton Art. Glass made in Williamstown.

1912 First Chief of Police.

1913 Electricity comes to Williamstown.

1916 First Williamstown High Football team.

1918 First electric street lights.

1921 First women votes in WIlliamstown.

1922 Rt 14 to Vienna completed.

1924 First gas station.

1926 First Police Car.

1933 Williamstown High School band founded.

1935 Tomlinson Park.

1936 Fire siren installed.

1946 Wood County airport opens.

1946 Trolley service stopped.

1957 Last passenger train.
